The Development Center Dresden

In 2013 Amazon expanded to Dresden with it being the home-base of the Amazon Development Center team. The Kernel and Operating System team creates the heart of EC2, the actual virtual compute instance definitions and Amazon Linux, the operating system for our cloud. Being part of Amazon means constantly driving innovation and working on complex technical challenges every day.


We are seeking talented and experienced System Development Engineers that can contribute to our Linux Kernel maintainance, someone who can help us keep our kernel and hypervisor secure, stable, performance-tuned and feature-rich to enable the amazing platforms we offer our customers.
As part of the team, you will be given the chance to have a significant impact to improve our systems, our business and most importantly the services for our customers.
On a “typical” day, the System Development Engineer might deep dive to root cause a customer issue, investigate why a metric is trending the wrong way, consult with the top engineers at Amazon, or discuss radical new approaches to automate operational issues.

Notwendige Qualifikationen

    • Solid understanding of Linux fundamentals
    • Excellent communication and analytical skills
    • Demonstrated skill and passion for operational excellence
    • The ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team with the ability to influence others
    • Basic coding skills, preferably in C/C++

Wünschenswerte Qualifikationen

    • Practical experience in scripting and/or automation
    • Have used AWS or similar solutions to drive automation
    • Experience developing or deploying highly scalable application
    • Knowledge of virtualization technologies
    • Experience developing in a Linux environment
